In this resource you will find guidance on prioritisation in tray task. This guidance goes through the purpose of an in tray like this, including why they’re used, how to ace them and things to avoid!
This document also provides an example prioritisation task for you to practice prior to the interview.
Please note: this resource does include a worked example of the answers but this order is without justification - this is because there is no set correct answers for a priorisation task - you only need to make informed and educated decisions and justify your answers clearly. Your answers may be different to the ones on the template - but this does not make them incorrect as long as you clearly and rationally justified your answers.
This PDF includes 5 key questions asked on pastoral interview and their answers in detail.
These are intended to support existing or new heads of year as well as being potential questions you may get asked on interview.
In this set I answer:
how do you create year group cohesion?
why are assemblies important?
what is included in a successful form time?
why is monitoring attendance important?
how do you improve the resilience of your year group?
These answers are suggestions – they are not necessarily definitive.
If preparing for interview, I always recommend you tailor your questions to the school you’re applying to and ensure you are giving specific examples of what you’re able to offer.
If in post, always remember the policies of your school.

In this bundle you will find different resources to help you monitor and improve attendance.
This is a comprehensive attendance bundle which contains many of the resources any Head of Year would need to track and improve attendance.
A tracking and intervention spreadsheet - this conditionally formatted spreadsheet allows you to track your year group attendance weekly and allows you to track your interventions also.
Attendance interview template - this is a template for used in a school attendance panel or similar meeting and is helpful to identify any concerns as well as formalise the process of monitoring attendance
6 week monitoring card - this is a card which can be printed and handed to students, or stuck into homework diaries etc, this is designed to be completed weekly with attendance and can be used to monitor the 6 week improvement period of students below thresholds of your choice (90/95 etc).
Attendance improvement plan - this an example improvement plan for heads of year to use when trying to target attendance. It provides strategies and priorities for focus - much like a year group improvement plan, but just so attendance.

In this resource, you will find a 4 page example teacher coach/teaching mentor/CPD lead application letter or supporting statement.
These are usually roles which lead on coaching teachers and offering teaching and learning support for staff within school and are often internal positions. These may also be staff who lead on CPD, who audit CPD needs within school and work as a team with the SLT link for learning and teaching. This letter is useful if you are applying for any of these roles and should give you a great starting point.
This resource is full of ideas for your own letter and is a great base for writing your own application. I always recommend making sure your own letter fits descriptions for roles and never send a blanket letter to schools or for internal positions.

This resource is a second example application letter for the position of SENCo in a secondary school.
This letter should be developed by including your own examples of where you have completed the points referenced and the impact of that work as well as your learning from the work you have completed. This letter is for guidance only and should not used exclusively to apply for a SENCo role but instead used to support the writing of your own letter. Letters should always be tailored to the school you are applying to and your own experiences.
This template is 2 pages long.
This resource is aimed a secondary school SENCo role, but could provide ideas for other stages of education also.
Please note: covering letters should not exceed 2 pages in length.
I never recommend sending blanket templates for prospective roles and always advise an application is tailored to you and the school.
